PRECONCEPTION NUTRITION

Whether you have just decided to start trying, or you have been in the middle of this for longer than you expected, the months before conception are the most nutritionally significant time in the entire pregnancy journey and the one that most women spend waiting rather than preparing. Folic acid needs to be present before the neural tube closes, which happens in the very earliest days of pregnancy, often before a positive test has even appeared. Iron stores built now are the ones early pregnancy will immediately begin drawing down. The omega-3s, zinc, and vitamin D your body needs to support both conception and those first invisible weeks of development are built over months, not days.
The food that does all of this is not unfamiliar, it is the dhal, the fresh fish, the dark leafy greens, the eggs that are already on your table. What changes here is the understanding of why they matter specifically now, so you can stop guessing and arrive at conception as prepared as you can be.

Trying to conceive can involve complex medical and hormonal factors that vary significantly between individuals. If you have been trying to conceive for twelve months or longer without success (or six months if you are over 35) please speak to your doctor. If you have a diagnosed condition that may affect fertility, such as PMOS, endometriosis, thyroid dysfunction, or hormonal imbalance, seek personalised medical guidance before making significant changes to your diet or supplement routine.
